Need a Read the Room Activity for long a using ai and ay???

Well you are in luck!  I had planned on purchasing clip art to make this Read the Room activity but then found some great premade cutouts at the Dollar Tree and couldn't resist.

So I bought five packs of these little cuties...spending a total of $5 mind you. (I know I could have just bought the clip art and had it forever right???  But I would have spent more time and money printing it all and well we all know we don't have much of either...lol!

Look at how cute these three are!

Then I made these labels using Word and Avery 42895 Labels (they are a little bit bigger than the return address labels).

What happens when you put these cuties with some labels???

Viola!  Ai and Ay Read the Room Activity!  I have included another freebie for you if you are in the mood to run by the Dollar Tree.  Here is the Recording Sheet and the Labels

We use Thinking Maps at our school (if you don't know what I am talking about click on the link...they are FABULOUS!) so the recording sheet is a Tree Map.  The students basically just use this to sort the long a words into two different groups, ai and ay.  Honestly Thinking Maps are the best things since sliced bread...don't know how or why I have went this long without ever knowing what they are!

Anyways, hope everyone enjoys this post and thanks for following!

Our fraction fun!

As promised in my previous post, I wanted to share some pictures with you guys of our class fraction fun! Here is what our side of the hallway looks like...lol!

This is the SUPER cute collection of bug fractions we created.  Thanks to Primary Graffiti and The First Grade Parade!

Here are our Ice Cream Cones that I came up with!  The kids LOVED making these 6 scoops!

If you would like the ingredients (hehe) for this just click on scoops and cones!  (Sorry they are not in PDF format, I had to do it from home.)

This turned out so cute I just had to share.  I change my door theme monthly and this one will last us till the end of the year.  Isn't it adorable?!?!

New at this!

So apparantly I am not as tech savvy as I would like to think....lol!  I apologize if you tried to download my Fraction Freebie and received an error message.  I am still trying to figure out how to work all of this Google Doc business.  Please leave me a comment if it does not work this time.

Thanks for checking it out!

Fraction Freebie!!!

Well, hello blogging world!  I have not been able to blog in what seems like forever!  Sorry for those of you who follow in hopes for some great, exciting new ideas...I have been such a slacker.  This is my first year teaching and well they don't really tell you just how busy you will be as a teacher.
Anyways, we have been studying fractions this past week and I have created a freebie just for you!  I started our week by making equal parts ladybugs and unequal parts bumble bees (thanks to Primary Graffiti for the great idea!) and then we opened up an ice cream shop!  We made ice cream sundaes together (on paper) using the recording sheet below.  My kiddos LOVED it!  We had a lot of fun!  There are four examples total to complete together or independently.  We completed three together and then I let them do the last one on their own and share using our document reader (which they love).  Then after we finished up whole group as an independent activity, we made ice cream cones to hang in the hallway.  I will post a picture this week to show you all our display.  We finished up the week making the SUPER cute Fractionpillar's from The First Grade Parade's blog.  My kiddos had a blast with fractions....I hope yours do too!

Feel free to share the freebie with others just let them know where you go it!  (wink, wink)  Thanks for following!
